okay, so this is a piece of writing that i had to do for KS3. there are levels going up to 7. what do you think i will get for this? The sun always remained an enigma to Billy, a hot fiery ball high in the sky that never showed any signs that gravity was pulling it down. He stopped for a moment and gazed out the windowpane before gabbing his backpack and heading out the door to where the car where the rest of his family waited with jolly anticipation. The picnic was getting closer with every step he took… Now he was at Shady Shores beach with his family enjoying a refreshing water bottle from the cooler. “Billy, come and skip rocks with me!” Billy heard Sally, his younger sister, pestering him to go to the part if the sand where it met the rippling waters of the ocean. “I’ll be there in a second,” Billy replied. After a stroll of short length, Billy was there and spotted his younger sibling standing awkwardly over the water to avoid dipping her toes in the chilling icy waters of the salty sea. He chose to plonk himself on a smooth rock for a minute and remove his sneakers, and to roll up the ends of his trousers to avoid getting them wet. Billy looked up to see a sky wrought with pink hues. He almost seemed to see parts of it that glinted, as if there were something there, reflecting light, like glass… but that wasn’t possible though… was it? Billy’s thoughts were interrupted though, by an impatient Sally. “Coming,” he called out as he stood up. As he did though, an interesting stone caught the young chaps eye-it looked like a smooth crystal, refracting light in all directions. He was intrigued. He picked up the tactile stone and, not wanting to part with it, he slipped it into his pocket. “teach me how to skip stones like you do” Sally whispered intently, concentrating on the technique Billy’s skilled hands used to throw yet another grey rock, making it slash through the air, bounce off the water’s surface until it was nowhere to be seen anymore. The stone was in the waters depths now, not floating but sinking, until it made contact with rock bottom, to stay for an eternity and more. “now, the key is to find a flat stone… I can’t find one- Sally, help me look?” Billy requested Sally’s help he realised he still had that mesmerising stone in his pocket… he didn’t want to part with it, but he was sure Sally would be able to skip this stone. The stone came bouncing back. After Sally had thrown it with all her might, it came back. Back to Shady Shores beach where it had been just moments ago. Billy was vexed. “How…” Billy started but he was contemplating on any way this could have happened far too much. He had no ideas. Blank. He picked up the shimmering stone and it seemed to glow in the palm of his hand as he lifted it. He had to know, how? Eureka! There was a rent a boat booth just a short walk from here. His wallet suddenly became a brick he had to lighten by spending on the boat. “Sally, go back to mum and dad. Tell them… tell them I ran into someone I know. I’ll be back soon,” Billy instructed. He was paddling like a madman, against the waves of the water. After about a half hour of ferocious rowing, he was beginning to regret coming out here. In a rage, he picked up the stone and muttered “I hate skipping stones”. Billy had skipped his last stone. Or so he thought. He rid himself of the purple rock but before it hit the water’s surface, it bounced back. Just like before, the stone came back. He threw it several more times, and then he threw it again. He reached out his hand to find it coming into contact with a hard, cold solid. Glass! Then it hit him that he was in a dome . a glass dome that was going to take some work to get out of. Blind waves of panic spread from head to toe, and he had to sit down. He had to break the dome! The glass would be easily penetrated with the stone, wouldn’t it? The glass was thick and the sun was setting. Billy didn’t know how long it would take for him to shatter the dome, if he would have it done by tomorrow or in months, years… But what he did know was that he would come back every day in his attempt to discover what was on the other side…...
